Whitney Houston's birthday (August 9th) marks what would usually be a day of celebration in the music world, but is this year is a mark of mourning - the late songstress having passed away earlier this year.
To mark the day, famous friends, family members and fans of Whitney Houston who passed away in a Beverley Hills Hotel in February, have come together to honor her life, rather than dwell on her death. Singer-songwriter Monica, who developed a close relationship with Houston from the nineties until her death, said that Houston "prepared" her for a life in music and since her death has been performing tributes in honour of the deceased singer - including a show that she and fellow songstress Brandy put on in Atlanta, Georgia a month after Whitney's death.
Meanwhile, R Kelly has also come forward to speak about his admiration for Whitney and how her loss saddens him still today. He told MTV News that Whitney was always fun to work with and like a sibling, saying she "reminded [him] of my sister". Kels and Whitney had been working on the soundtrack for the upcoming film Sparkle, which saw Whitney take on her final role before her death. The film, released August 19th, sees the dearly departed entertainer plays a former vocalist and the mother of three sisters who form their own Motown group in 1960's Detroit.
