Veteran Actress Whoopi Goldberg Has Hit Out At U.s. Self-help Guru Dr. Phil Mcgraw For Agreeing To Sit Down With Bobbi Kristina Brown's Boyfriend Nick Gordon And Then Airing His Troubles On Tv, Branding His Actions "Irresponsible".
MCGraw's highly anticipated interview with Gordon turned into an intervention after the interviewee's lawyers asked the psychiatric expert for help, and when it aired in America on Wednesday (11Mar15), viewers saw the 25 year old, who was clearly intoxicated, suffer a meltdown as the TV doctor urged him to seek professional help.
In the TV chat, Gordon's mother told Dr. Phil her son had turned to drugs and alcohol in a bid to cope with the guilt he felt following Brown's near-drowning at the couple's Roswell, Georgia home on 31 January (15) following a fight.
Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's daughter was admitted to hospital after a friend found her lifeless and face down in a bathtub and the aspiring actress has been in a medically-induced coma ever since the incident, which is currently under police investigation.
Gordon, who has been banned from visiting the embattled 22 year old in hospital by her family, checked himself into rehab shortly after walking out of the Dr. Phil interview, which was filmed last week (05Mar15), and Goldberg insists the show should never have aired in the first place, suggesting MCGraw exploited the whole situation for TV ratings.
Speaking on her U.S. talk show The View on Thursday (12Mar15), Goldberg said, "Whitney was a friend of mine and watching this happen, this little girl (Bobbi Kristina) is still in the hospital. We don't know what's gonna happen, it's just irresponsible all the way round to have done this (set up the interview), just 'cause you could. It's just irresponsible to me."
MCGraw defended the interview a day before the chat aired, claiming he agreed to help Gordon because he genuinely feared he would end up dead "in a matter of days" if he didn't take action.
He said, "I felt like if we did not get him to a structured and supervised environment... his life was in danger."
