Efforts to make a 'MacGruber' sequel are progressing swiftly, according to Will Forte.

Forte, 44, starred in the first film - which is based on the 'Saturday Night Live' comedy sketch of the same name - and says efforts to make a sequel are taking shape, with writer-director Jorma Taccone currently working on a storyline for 'MacGruber 2'.

He told Collider: ''Jorma just sent an outline for 'MacGruber 2'.

''We had worked together on something and I had fleshed out the first act of 'MacGruber 2'. He took that and went nuts on the rest of it.''

Forte - who's also appeared in '30 Rock' - added: ''I'm very excited because I feel like at some point, if somebody will let us do it, then we'll do it. But it's out of our hands. But we're writing it for sure.''

The original 'MacGruber' flick, which was released in 2010, also featured Kristen Wiig - who has worked on films like 'Knocked Up' and 'Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story' - and 'Gosford Park' star Ryan Phillippe.

Val Kilmer also appeared in the original film, playing the role of Dieter Von Cunth.
