Will.i.am is convinced people will print their food in 20 years time.

The 'It's My Birthday' hitmaker has become intrigued by 3D printing and believes the technology will change the way all humans live in the imminent future, enabling people to create their own food.

He gushed: ''It will revolutionise society.

''To eat beef and wear leather, you need a lot of land and water for cows. In the next 20 years, we'll be able to print beef and leather instead. It might sound like science fiction but right now, I can take you to a factory in Brooklyn that prints out leather.''

The 39-year-old technology enthusiast - who is currently appearing as a coach on 'The Voice UK' - is so convinced by the capability of the devices, he thinks organ donors will soon be a thing of the past too, as people will be able to print themselves new organs in their own home.

He told the Observer newspaper: ''In 10 years, everyone will have a 3D printer in their house. In 20 years, you'll be able to print a new kidney. You'll have a machine that prints your genome with proteins that are right for your body.''
