German-born director Wim Wenders has brought politics to the fore at this year's (03) Cannes Film Festival by declaring he's considering leaving America because of the current political climate.

The Wings of Desire helmer is in the French town to promote his new film THE SOUL OF MAN. And when asked if he wanted to leave the U.S., Wenders replied, "Right now I really feel like it."

The Los Angeles resident also complained about the "almost McCARTHYist" response to critics of President George W Bush.
