Wyclef Jean - Wyclef Jean Denies Using New Book To Attack Lauryn Hill
The former Fugees star has opened up about his life in new book Purpose: An Immigrant's Story, which is released on Tuesday (18Sep12).
The book caused controversy before it even hit shelves after the New York Post ran a quote from the tome in which Jean accused his ex-bandmate Hill of misleading him over the paternity of her first son.
The book also reveals the pair regularly fought in public and that Hill penned her hugely successful debut solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill about their time together.
The rapper insists he is not taking aim at his ex through his book, but simply closing that chapter of his life.
He tells MTV.com, "It's important because at the end of the day, I'm not coming at (attacking) L (Lauryn). This is a period of my life, and that's how I felt. If anything, I just brought closure to a chapter - because at the end of the day, I didn't do (an album like) Miseducation, so there was no closure in my chapter, but I kept writing and writing.
"It was important just to be honest. I'm not known to sugarcoat, so it's either yes or no. And for (someone) picking up something and reading it, I don't think that I should've left it (affair with Hill) as a myth. Because even if I said it or she said, history is gonna say what it is.
"If she was reading my book, I don't think she would want me to be any other way than honest with my book. Because she's straight-up honest."
