The Yeah Yeah Yeahs wowed concertgoers with a tribute to the Beastie Boys at this weekend's (07-09Aug09) Lollapalooza Festival - after ADAM 'MCA' YAUCH's recent cancer diagnosis forced the rap group to scrap their appearance there.
The three-day concert event in Chicago, Illinois was one of many shows the Beastie Boys were forced to pull out of after Yauch announced last month (Jul09) that doctors found a tumour in his left salivary gland.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs agreed to fill in at the last-minute - and used their slot to pay tribute to the hip-hop trio, sending the crowd into a frenzy by playing riffs from the Beastie Boys 1994 hit Sabotage at their appearance on Saturday (08Aug09).
Lead singer Karen O told the crowd, "Isn't this night special? The Yeahs are not gonna forget. We're not even supposed to be here. We never expected to fill the shoes of the Beastie Boys."
Yauch recently underwent surgery to remove the cancer and is expected to make a full recovery.
