Ono Chauffeur Allowed To Leave The Us
LATEST: A former chauffeur who attempted to blackmail Yoko Ono will be allowed to leave the US voluntarily rather than be deported, according to a ruling yesterday (14MAR07).
Turkish-born KORAL KARSAN can now return to his native land without further legal proceedings, under an order signed by Judge ALAN VOMACKA in New York.
Karsan must leave America before 13 April (07), although his lawyer said the driver has a plane ticket to Turkey booked for 23 March (07).
Karsan pleaded guilty to charges of threatening to release embarrassing tape recordings and candid photographs of Ono, the widow of John Lennon, and of threatening to kill her unless she gave him $2 million (GBP1.03 million).
He was sentenced to 60 days in jail last month (FEB07), but had already covered that time since his indictment in December last year (06). He was then handed over to immigration officials.
