Yoko Ono has relived the night of John Lennon's murder, 30 years after the former beatle was gunned down outside their home in New York.
Ono choked back tears as she told producers of a British TV documentary details of her last moments with Lennon as they travelled back to their apartment following a recording session on the evening of 8 December, 1980.
The couple decided not to stop for a meal because Lennon wanted to see their five-year-old son Sean - but the legendary rocker was gunned down by crazed fan Mark Chapman after he stepped from his limo outside his home at The Dakota building.
Ono struggled to maintain her composure as she told a journalist for the ITV network's The Day John Lennon Died, "When we were in the car, I said, 'Shall we go to a restaurant or something before we go home?'. He said, 'No, I want to see Sean before he goes to sleep'. He is probably asleep by now, I was thinking, but he wanted to see Sean, so...
"But, you know, even if we went to the restaurant, (it) doesn't mean anything. It wouldn't, you know, make us avoid anything horrible. And, uh... and the car stopped, and we got out of the car. It was really... it was really terrible."
