Yoko Ono and her son Sean Lennon travelled to Albany, New York on Friday (11Jan13) to speak out against the proposed plan to begin hydraulic fracturing in the state later this year (13).

The mother and son team launched Artists Against Fracking in 2012 in a bid to urge Governor Andrew Cuomo to reject proposals allowing the controversial gas drilling, which critics claim can poison nearby water supplies with dangerous chemicals, near their home in Delaware County.

On Friday the pair hand-delivered over 200,000 letters written by protesters to the Department of Environmental Conservation to make their voices heard.

Speaking with reporters about the need to take a stand before lawmakers vote on the bill next month (Feb13), activist Ono said, "Fracking kills, and it doesn't just kill us. It kills the land, nature and, eventually, the whole world."
