Zooey Deschanel is proving that she's not just a hit on the silver screen, and that her musical ties extend beyond her marriage with Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard. Zooey Deschanel is set to show off her singing abilities by performing the US National Anthem at the World Series, whilst also releasing a new Christmas album.
Major League Baseball announced today (21st Oct 2011) that Deschanel will sing the anthem before Game 4 on Sunday (23rd Oct 2011). She will be following country singers Trace Adkins and Ronnie Dunn who will do the honours on the previous two nights. The MLB made this announcement on Twitter, stating: "Trace Adkins, Ronnie Dunn & Zooey Deschanel to perform national anthem prior to #WorldSeries Games 2 through 4, respectively, on @MLBONFox." However, it doesn't end there.
Deschanel (who sings in the pop group SHE & HIM with singer-songwriter M.Ward) will release a festive project soon. The indie duo will release 'A Very She & Him Christmas' on October 25th; the album featuring twelve holiday classics including 'Silver Bells' and 'Baby, It's Cold Outside', which Deschanel ironically sang with Will Ferrell in the smash-hit comedy 'Elf'. The She & Him website reads: "Inspired by seminal holiday albums by the likes of The Carpenters, VINCE GUARALDI, The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley and more, She & Him have set out to create an intimate holiday recording of Christmas classics that helps bring new emotions out of old songs."
Zooey Deschanel is currently starring in the Fox hit-show 'New Girl', which is set to air on E4 in the UK soon.
